i know you cant click on it to see it bigger but anyway....
i was wondering about damaged cards like this one...should i display the bag saying it was damaged? it came from london...went to florida because it had no state or zip code on it ...then strange enough showed up at my house in indiana...with a little peice of masking tape on it that said "not FL try Indiana".
this card is covered in blue and purple wax that smells really good and powerful. it makes my whole living room smell nice. but the wax was all falling off thats why it ended up in the damaged bag...any thought?

Chappelle? Well then this might be the thing for you!

DJ Death Squad Productions is putting on its first however-so-often-
it-happens White Elephant Art Swap. You give art. You get art. From
someone you totally don't even know! Interested? Follow this yellow
brick road of guidelines:

1) You must have an original artwork (any medium- words, paint,
tunes, etc.) in mind before you sign up, and you must give a detailed
description and/or photo with your sign up. To sign up send your full
name and mailing address to djdeathsquad@gmail.com. I will collect
around 50 names / artists before cutting off the swap. US addresses
only at the moment for postage / timing reasons, although I will be
organizing a worldwide art swap at a later date if this works out.
Artworks must be of your own original creation although
collaborations are still considered groovy.

2) The official swap will be held on March 10th, 2007. On this date
you will receive the mailing address of the person you should send
your artwork to. Your artwork must be mailed no later than March 20th.

3) On March 10th another artist will have received your mailing
address and will be sending you an artwork. This will not likely be
the same person you sent artwork to.

4) After the swap, if you would like to share a photo or comments
regarding the artwork, you can email them to me and I will slap them
up on a really sexy art swap community page I have yet to build.

it has been a long time

but i'm back with a NEW PROJECT in the mail !

117 envolpes went out in todays mail ( almost $60 postage!)
we'll see what comes back
117 people in 84 cities, 15 countries (27 states in the US)
i still have a few, if anyone wants to join in but if your a member
of this tribe you can assume you will be recieving one.
if nothing shows let me know cuz that means i dont have your correct address.

this time around theres NO theme or deadline,
but i hope people will return them quickly.

everyone recieved the same collage i made.
i think i have streamlined the envolope process, this time it only took 3 days. So hopefully there will be another project in the works soon.

everyone new and old.....i have a butt-load of scanning to do , incase you have been wondering if i recieved your art i will hopefully have everything posted by thursday...computer willing. several came back posted wrong address or something wrong so i will post some sort of list of those too.
I've been traveling so things got a bit backed up.
I will send out returns to those who have sent 8 inch squares in the morning, i have not forgotten you!
hope all is well and art-full.
I book idea is still stuck in the idea stage but i am liking the image driven idea, but i want to do something different that i have not already seen.

i have over 28 inches of snow outside my door
so since i am pretty much homebound
i am entering addresses into a lable program
so that i can send mass mail art projects, annoucments, etc without
giving myself a brain attack or buying one of those zipcode books

so if you definatly want to continue to
be part of my mail art project go ahead
and message me your address again to make sure i have it....
and if you do not want to be on my list please tell me that too.

im looking at a January mailing of a secret mailart project...

i hope those that still have skin books are finishing them up...
i dug a path to the mail box so that i can still recieve mail.

and Faern i recieved your beautiful 8inch canvas yesterday, i will scan that later today.

Also please if you have any suggestions, please let me know.
i do this mailart stuff to communicate with other artist
i have recieved quite a bit of negative feedback lately
This is not my job, i do this for fun and to promote the art that i enjoy.

vlad sent me a message about this show..i would love to do a vaiation of it..any ideas? interest?

A while back I was in a show called 5x5. It was actually 11 gallerys/spaces that each enlisted 11 artists to an edition of 11 pieces that were all 5x5. We all paid a $10 fee for postage and one of the edition was sent to each of the 10 other gallerys. In the end we had a show of 121 artists. The same show at 11 spaces all over the country! at the end the work was devided between the artists, a suit of 11 works each, all different!. The space I was at, we (the artists) decided to each pick one piece for ourselves, then have a silent auction of the 110 other works as a fund raiser for the art space.
Food for thought?

there was a similar show to benifit the artcenter here by my house...i think it was like 25 artist did an edition of like 25 pieces....all the same size then another artist made these little wooden boxes that each grouping fit into like a book ..they sold for $1000 a set. they were nice but the art was a little boring, and there wasnt much that tied the peices together, but i liked the idea.

well, joel i got your skin book its kinda creepy in person. i dont know why it has that quality maybe because it is so cold...asethetically and physically, sitting out in the snow for a what looks like 2 days.

also i got the first 8by8 square its rather interesting ..its from jane linders

I'm just wondering what is the motivation for people to send mail art to strangers?

this was posted on the collaborative art tribe ....
=I never got any satisfaction out of the last stupid postcard project I did for you. You never even told me whether or not you got it when I messaged you. Why would I want to subject myself to that kind of disappointment again? Id rather paint a huge canvas and throw it in the river, at least then I would know where it went. Actually I think I'll just throw my oil paints in the garbage right now and pretend I painted your crappy book..

"Flesh" color on SKIN book

I was distressed by JJ calling that particular color "fleshy".

Does it bother you? e.g., pink=skin therefore white=human...

its really beautiful, i do wish the inside was more like the cover, but it is also nice. suzanna if you would like to post the digital pics you have of it please do so. Is everyone still thinking/working on their book? Any progress? any books in route? I'm still trying to solidify my idea for my book...i am going to use hair and pictures of teeth in it, i would also like to come up with some words ...but thats been slow coming. damn postoffice

well the cards are ready to send out
postage attached
address written
directions attached
and i took them to the postoffice and they said i needed to cut a 1/4 of an inch off of all 93 cards or attach 12 more cents per card...even though i took them in there a week ago and they measured them and sold me the "correct" postage....errrr that pisses me off...so i might just dump them in the mail box and you all will get one of those nifty little envoples asking you to give you mailman 12cents.....

the new mailing

well i have about 10 cards left and i think those are almost spoken for this has been alot easier the second time around...jasmine

already planning another mailing with more of a hand crafted look.
I've been talking with one other person about passing along a set of cards and sort of altering in mass production...like we would pass along 100 cards and each person adds their "mark" to all 100.
anyone interested in this? ahve any thoughts other ideas?

but the photo that is up is the postcard you should expect to get in the mail for the current mailing..i thought this might cut down on lost mail if people know what it looks like then they wont accidentally throw it out with the junk mail...and maybe you can come up with your idea before it even arrives...

also i am addressing the cards for then next mailing...these i have numbered for better record keeping and i am mailing them all out at the same time ...hopfully early next week...so if you definatly dont want a card or if you know someone new please let me know...
