I want to make a book about our
mail art thing, im thinking like
lulu.com or something
but i want it to be interesting
include lots of pictures of work
i started writing a couple of times
but just scrapped it
i dont want it to just document
i want it to be a piece of
art that stands on its own
this is all in the ideas stage
so what are your thoughts?

Re: book idea
Tue, June 28, 2005 - 3:57 PMWhenever I see things like this, I usually like the ones that are simple the best -- a short introduction to the book, and then the rest is mostly just the images. Perhaps a few statements and quotes from the artists, etc. (we could all submit one and we could vote on which ones we like the best and get everyone's ideas across the clearest) and some blurbs about mail art in general.
I think it's a fabulous idea. -

Re: book idea
Sun, July 10, 2005 - 5:17 PMI'm starting to get a new interest in stories. Part of the reason for that is all the stories I find myself telling are from television. I need new stories- magic stories-
of course books with stories and pictures is a very old tradition... as old as books
maybe we should brainstorm ideas...

Re: book idea
Tue, July 12, 2005 - 12:10 AMWow! Great idea! lulu.com looks really cool. I was just part of a catalogue "Blockbusta" that was almost all images. It was sort of a take "back the nite" but for art. It was funded by the artists and some nice doners, but got really expensive and sort of freaked out the folks who were putting it together a bit in the end. This lulu.com seems a much less stressful idea, I'm already planing a whole series of books and catologues by fictious artists and authors!
I think a simple photo book with just sections like : "postcard #1" and the images then "book project" and the images, etc.. Possably a list of artists with short bios by page # at the end? And of course a big spred up for you, explanation of the project, glossy head shot etc... -

Re: book idea
Fri, July 15, 2005 - 6:15 PMAnyone else interested in seeing the book composed entirely of the art with no text added? -
-
Re: book idea
Thu, July 21, 2005 - 3:19 PMI like all art no text books. Iv'e made several. I'm thinking that kind of book works better as an art object- textural. Instead of professionally published. We would have to make sevral artists books and send them around.
