OKAY so here is the deal...motivation is the key.
I am not sending anything out for people to start with this time around because I just don't get things returned... 38 handmade books were not returned. that sucks. the people who did follow thru did some awesome work. so heres the new project...
Mail Art
Call for artist in any discipline
8inch SQUARE
the only stipulation is that it is an 8inch square....
Send your art to me and i will send you something in exchange.
I will also post your art in the all on the outside tribe gallery.
Be sure to include your name and contact info when sending your work. By sending your work you are giving me permission to display and/or publish your work. good luck and if you have any questions just ask.

Re: 8inches NEW MAILING!!!
Mon, December 6, 2004 - 6:29 AMHi jasmine:
Sorry to hear that the returns on the book project were so poor. You'll probably get a few more late ones. Figure people always have good intentions, but life has a way of getting in the way of even the best intentions. Sucks, though, for you, with all the wonderful energy you bring to this.
Count me in to send you an 8" square piece. I LOVE the challenge of working in a square. Will you be putting a deadline on this project?
As an aside, thought you might like to hear about a fund-raising project that's run annually by the institution where I did my art studies in Toronto, the Ontario College of Art and Design. They mail hundreds of 5-1/2" x 7-1/2" watercolour cards to present students and alumni and request that they make them into works of art and then mail them back to the college. They then have a 3-day viewing of the works, then 2 sales days. The show is called "Whodunnit?" as the artists are required to put their names on the back of the pieces so whoever purchases them has no idea who made them. Each piece is sold for $75. I participated this year for the second time and sent in this piece:
toronto.tribe.net/template/...text/pcard
The college raises $100,000 each year with the show. Cool, eh?
Keep up the good work, jasmine.
Allan
P.S.: You might wish to delete your duplicate thread for this project. -

Re: 8inches NEW MAILING!!!
Mon, December 6, 2004 - 4:06 PMnope no deadline on the project...
that fundraiser is awsome. I think I've read about it before.
I think i was disappointed with this mailing because i put more energy making the inital piece than i did with the others.... And i have been critized for not being more involved in the process...so i think i had higher expectations.
by the way i love squares, too.

Re: 8inches NEW MAILING!!!
Fri, January 14, 2005 - 7:38 PMI tried something new today I made an 8x8 inch postcard. I had previously bought special packaging and sent it priority mail. But for the work I painted on both sides of a cardboard square with a painting on one side and a white surface with letter and address on the other. The post office charged me the postcard fee of 23 cents plus 12 cents extra for being oversized.I saved 3 or 4 dollars. Hopefully it won't get lost or damaged. It's definitely the best thing Iv'e made for this project so far.
It's so easy and fun that I want to make more. Would anyone in the AOTO tribe like one? -
